BURGAW, NC (WECT) - Fire officials, including Pender County fire marshals and the SBI, are investigating what they call a suspicious house fire in Burgaw.

Three fire departments responded to the fire at a home in the 1200 block of Old Savannah Road South, according to Pender County dispatch. The call came in around 2:35 Wednesday morning.

According to Tommy Batson, Pender County Deputy Fire Marshal, the house was engulfed  in flames when fire crews arrived on the scene.

Neighbor David Organ said the fire was so intense it looked like broad daylight outside, rather than 3 a.m.

Crews were able to put out the fire, but the property is a complete loss.

Officials estimate no one has lived in the home since June.
