LELAND, NC (WECT) – Business owners will have to wait a few more weeks until
they find out when they have to comply with the town's sign ordinance.
The decision to delay the vote was made at Thursday night's town meeting.
Leland Town Manager David Hollis said they hope to make a decision by next
month.
The vote deals with a five year amortization period for business owners with
signs.
A sign ordinance is already in place; however, businesses have no idea when
the five year compliance period will begin.
Business
owners have argues that having large signs are crucial to getting people to
come visit the town and businesses.
Hollis
said leaders adopted the ordinance in the first place to help with aesthetics
of the town.
The
ordinance applies to every business but classifies those businesses by how many
signs they have on the property.
