WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Encore Magazine gives us the best picks of the weekend.
Opera House Theater Company opens the first show of its 2013 season called "She Loves Me."
It's based on a play called "Parfumerie" which has been adapted into a number of movies including "You've Got Mail." A man and a woman who dislike each other end up falling in love through letters. The musical runs through February 24 and again from March 1-3 at Thalian Hall. Performances are at 8pm with Sunday matinees at 3pm.
Also at Thalian Hall, there will be a tribute to the late Paco Strickland. He was a well-known flamenco guitar player in the Wilmington area who died recently from cancer. His day of remembrance will begin at 6:45 am Saturday with a paddle out at Shell Island Resort in Wrightsville Beach. Then there will be a memorial at Thalian Hall from 2pm to 5pm.
At 6pm, friends and family will gather at Mixto restaurant on Water Street in downtown Wilmington to host a jam tribute.
Photographer Arrow Ross will have his work on display at two locations – WHQR's M.C. Erny Gallery on North Front Street and Acme Art Studio on North 5th Avenue. He went to India with the non-profit group Homes of Hope and documented girls' lives from their time in the slums to when they get into orphanages and start receiving better care. The photos will hang in Acme through February 24th. They'll hang at WHQR until March 23rd.
