COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Power has been restored to part of Columbus County after more than 5,000 customers were without power overnight.

According to a spokesman for Duke Energy Progress, there were two power outages in Columbus County early this morning. Both happened a little after midnight.

The spokesman said the first outage impacted more than 5,000 people and power was restored at 12:34 a.m.

More than 3,000 people were without electricity during the second outage, power was restored around 3:30 a.m.

The spokesman said they're looking into what caused the outages, but it looks like it was equipment failure.
