NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Sleet and power outages often go hand in hand, so residents in southeastern North Carolina should do what they can to prepare.

Emergency officials recommend every household have an emergency plan in place and have a kit ready to go in case of the loss of power.

The kits should include things like

  • blankets
  • weather radio
  • flashlights with batteries
  • first aid kit
  • nonperishable foods
  • bottled water
  • medication

Power company crews are working as fast as they can to restore electricity, but safety is a priority. While it's hard to pinpoint an exact time power will be restored, you can check the power outage maps online to get an idea.
